Feline Immunodeficiency Virus

FIV leads to immunosuppression in the affected cat. Due to the weakened immune system, the cat can no longer fight off infections after a certain point.

There are many FIV-positive animals that live largely healthy until old age and have no problems.

There is no drug therapy or chance of healing, but you should pay particular attention to balanced, good nutrition, avoidance of unnecessary stress and veterinary checks in the event of symptoms of illness, so as not to put additional strain on the immune system.

FIV is not transmissible to humans or other animal species.

Many cats are infected through bites, e.g. during aggressive territorial fights, which is why mostly unneutered, stray tomcats are affected by FIV.
Transmission occurs, for example, with a deep bite, when the saliva of an infected cat gets into the wound.

In the outside world, the FIV virus can only survive for a few seconds, so that transmission through sharing food/water and resting places or mutual grooming does not lead to infections.

Negative and positive cats can live together in a well-socialized household.

Please get to know my „positive“ cats and meet them without being afraid of their infection! They will thank you!
